On March 4th, The.XS Collective marches forth to XS1.SG. We invite all our friends and supporters to march forth with us. The Singapore HipHop scene have gone through a drought period for a while now and we need all the support we can get to bring the rain/reign back. Let's all march forth and work together for the renaissance...

We are still very much below the radar but the support (or sometimes lack thereof) that we have received from our friends for the past years is truly appreciated. We are no rap superstars but regular people with regular lives who just happens to love the artform.

The entire world had the privilege of watching Kanye’s reputation showdown on MTV Video Music Awards 2009. Kanye West abruptly stole the microphone from country singer, Taylor Swift, during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. He had to tell the world there and then that Beyonce was more deserving of that award for her work on “Single Ladies”.

Apparently, Kanye’s thoughts labored like a 9-month old foetus who just broke Mummy’s water and had to come out a.s.a.p. Ouch! When it comes to opinions, Kanye is a master of “Keeping It Real” but remains a young Skywalker when it comes to “Keeping It In”.

While Kanye may have previously been crowned “Hottest MC In The Game” by MTV, the aftermath of this showdown was the littering of his name on all social networking sites, crowning him as “The Douchebag”. This was reinforced with more backlash from 50 Cent, Pink, Tim McGraw and many more.

A few radio stations and also Entrepreneur/Famewhore Donald Trump hopped on the bangwagon and may have gone overboard when they decided to boycott Kanye. Kanye even had President Obama calling him a jackass.

It seems that we live in a world where brutal honesty takes precedence over diplomacy. While I do not condone pretentiousness, Ican’t help but admit that no one is ever so real.

Kanye seems to be a serial villain when it comes to dealing with the media. In the past, he had been charged for assaulting and throwing tantrums at paparazzis. Though I may not understand why Kanye West is so angsty, especially since he has Amber Rose as arm candy, it proves to be high time for anger management classes for him.

To make amends, Kanye expressed his apology in several avenues such as Tonight’s Show With Jay Leno and on his blog. He also called Taylor Swift to apologize to her personally.

It is without doubt that Kanye is one of the brightest stars in the hiphop industry today. He started out as a record producer under Jay Z’s wing and began to flourish as a mainstream conscious rapper shortly after Jay Z announced his “retirement” from his rap career. While he may not be getting popularity hits, he continues to produce good music.

To err is human, to forgive is divine. While we may not be made for divinity, he’s lucky that we have bigger problems and short attention spans. Realness is never an excuse of rudeness. That is the moral of this story.

X'Sylum is made up of Irfan Ilohshix (aka The Alien Tongue) and Elfie Prima Putra (aka Sick Boy) who are up and coming solo emcees in their own right within the SGHipHop scene.

Irfan Ilohshix is The.XS Collective’s youngest talent who has developed a refined story telling rap ability filled with descriptive mental imageries.

Elfie Prima Putra is an underated emcee who is able to adapt to any kind of music with a rhyme style that's hard to define.

In this segment, I present to you the many colourful faces of XS ala The Smoking Gun. So stop taking yourself so seriously for once and enjoy!

Exhibit A :
Fai looks like the most decent of the bunch but fret not, he has a long withstanding list of crimes. Fai is most known for smuggling endangered animals into the country but his specialty lies in poaching african terrapins. His smuggling escapades halted when the authorities caught him trying to smuggle "The Horny Turtle".

Exhibit B :
Don't be fooled by the gentle size of this man, Aiman. Aiman will sneaky sneaky on your ass and snatch your bags. He is actually a pioneering member of Ocean's 11. In fact, by his lonesome, he can do the job of 11 men. Due to the aerodynamic features of his hair, he is known as one of the fastest snatch thief wanted by the interpol.

Exhibit C :
Animal rapist. He was captured while trying to buy "The Horny Turtle" from Exhibit A. No further description needed.

Exhibit D :
Izaril is well-known as the Pirate of the Pornobean. His niche lies in archiving malay staircase quickies. He has suffered numerous arm injuries due to his strenuous and compulsive hand activities.
Exhibit E :
Naufal is a byproduct of excessive social networking. He stalks victims by super-poking them on Facebook. Young, but not so dangerous lah.

Exhibit F :
Cha is a long-time victim of Exhibit C. Due to his painful back-bending experiences, he has turned violent and is kept heavily sedated under Exhibit C's bed.

Exhibit G :
Illegal immigrant / Construction worker gone wild. Go home beat wife. Substance abuser. Everything also him lah.
Exhibit H :
Yus is a promiscuous primate from the descent of The Monkey God brought in exclusively by Exhibit A . He can turn your ass red just by staring at it. That in itself is a crime. He recently escaped from Mandai because Exhibit G was too drunk to put proper grills in his prison. Beware for he will Mas Selamat on your ass.

The Mammoth 'Test' Shoot

On the 4th April, Yasin aka Mr36 held a test shoot for a Singapore HipHop group shot. The real date for the shoot has been postphoned due to some budget/legal constraints but a few turned out for the test shoot and the results were stunning.

The shots looks superb so we would hope that the real photoshoot that will be tentatively held on the 16th May will be a success. Do spread the word on this. More info on the final photoshoot will be provided soon....

This is a call to unite activists/enthusiasts/supporters of every element and aspect of the HipHop culture in Singapore from past, present and future for a massive photoshoot to be conducted by Yasin Rahim aka Mr36.

Jinius At Work

"Jinius At Work" marks Jin Hackman’s first solo attempt as a member of Rogue Squadron (Malaysia). With production by RS’ very own beatmakers; Phrozt (Familyboy), MicWrecka & HQA (The Rebel Scum) and Skware-1, the LP is no amateur’s work done by cheap music software, as of the tradition of most self-funded Hip-Hop releases. At the same time, neither is it a blatant attempt at appealing to the lowest common denominator, the MTV audience. "Jinius At Work" is a labour of love by a 21-year-old rap debutant; just as Illmatic was. Will this define Jin Hackman’s career as Nas’ first album defined his? The parallel is there, listen to the music and you decide.

Recently a couple of us from The.XS Collective had the opportunity to perform in Malaysia for "KL HipHop Festival 2008". Public Eyez, X'Statix & Rauzan were there to rep XS/SG performing in the underground/indie acts segment.

Unfortunately the overall crowd attendance for the supposedly big event was a very big upset.

I guess the crowd attendance got better during the Internatioanl Acts segment at night but still wasn't really satisfactory. But regardless we had fun performing plus X'Statix & Rauzan won the best indie act for that evening too. Another personal highlight i guess would be Rauzan and me performing together with Altimet & his hypeman Mal. Check out the video

We have another video of Rauzan + X'Statix performance of new tracks from Rauzan's album but we'll upload it after Rau's album launch. Once again Rauzan's album will be entitled ReWrite and the tentative release date is 13.12.08

ok.. this is where you guys can find updates concerning the making of my upcoming album "ReWrite" which is going to be officially out in stores on 13th Dec. i am happy with whatever i have done so far for the album, posted a video of me working on one of my song "HeartBeat". Not to worry i will find time to update more videos until the launch of the album itself. Where i am going with the album right now so far, i am really really happy and cannot wait to share it with you guys :) Basically, my album ReWrite will be a new side of me, to most i am known for club oriented sounds. But in this album, i will be focusing more on the contents. i have yet to decide on the number of tracks i should have in the album, currently i already recorded 14 tracks including "Press Conference" the intro, and "Writer's Block" the interlude. i have yet to work on the outro for the album.

So, i will update more about the outcome of ReWrite. Meanwhile, enjoy the making of "HeartBeat" on youtube or on my Myspace.

GUESS WHAT!

Yesternight, after leaving home club, I saw a woman get mugged on Hong Kong St. This shady black guy (dah lah hitam, shady pula tu) crept up behind this chinese couple and snatched the woman's bag.

The chinese couple looked rather dumbfounded, which I'm guessing is due to their lack of experience with being mugged. The black guy sprinted the dark alley and fell into the drain. That part was a tad funny. He got up hastily and continued running.

It was only then that the chinese couple began running after the black dude. They took quite a while to process the frenzy. Well, at least it finally dawned on them.

And I, I sat there looking and doing nothing, like a spectator. My years spent on the streets were squandered on that short-lived moment. There goes my street cred.

Singapore is so ghetto, so hood! I think it's high time to play the best song and video in the world to commemorate this one-off event. Btw, best IN THE WORLD, OK!

Came across a new music video by Point Blanc. For those who don't know who Point Blanc is, he hails from the legendary Malaysian rap group Poetic Ammo. He came up with a Malaysian classic track/video "Ipoh Mali" somewhere around last year and this time the new video "One Day" features Jin The MC who is a chinese-american freestyle rap legend in his own right. The track is definitely a feel-good classic.

IRFNXS. The youngest and one of the most lyrically potent emcee to come out of The.XS Collective, recently setup his Myspace Artist page where he uploaded a few of his recorded tracks for preview. Formerly known as Supakid, the kid has been known for his raw talent ever since he came up in the scene. Now going by his real name, Irfan has developed a refined story telling rap ability filled with descriptive mental imageries. He is also a force behind the beats with a production style that is a mixture of raw-sampled beats as well as weird psychedelic electronic soundscapes.

If you have not heard any of his material do take a listen and add him up on your myspace friends list because this kid in my opinion, is the definition of ill.

Much respects to them Rogue Boys for the dope ass video and also for winning favorite Overseas act performance @ 65Hope Awards. I recently also listen through their -_- (Dash Underscore Dash) Mixtapz which i got during their recent visit to SG and it was impressive. Lots of goodstuff in it and i was mostly impressed by their malay-rap emcees, SSK (NBE & Saph).
